The exquisite tradition of Shola craft of Bengal faces the threat of extinction. Very few surviving expert artisans, lack of interest of younger generation, fine craftsmanship, stagnant and seasonal market for typical Shola craft decorations, low value products are the main reasons behind the near extinction of this fine craft tradition of Bengal.

Birbhum Workshop
The workshop was held in the Bhatibari village of Alipurduar from June 12-16 2019. The proposed idea of a 5 day workshop was to make contemporary decorative items out of the ritualistic products which they make.
It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
There are many variations of passages of Lorem Ipsum available, but the majority have suffered alteration in some form, by injected humour.
The workshop was held in the Bhatibari village of Alipurduar from June 12-16 2019. where 10 Shola artists participated under the supervision of legendary Shola artist Kamal Malakar, Srikanta Paul a contemporary artist and Mrityunjay Kumar, a designer was also present.
In the beginning of the study for the project the areas in Bengal were chalked out were Shola craft holds an important value. Visits were made in places like South 24 Parganas, Nadia, Murshidabad, Birbhum, Malda and Dinajpur.
